Yes, there are a million things you can do on the island, but the great thing about Roots is that it's also perfect for doing nothing at all. The jungle noises at night are spectacular and our guests often leave here with recordings of the sounds. The infamous Sisserou Parrots live in many of the trees on property and depending on the orange trees, you can often see 15 or 16 parrots flying around when the oranges are ripe.
We are located next to the gorgeous Bamboo river and have our own swimming hole and little waterfall. You could just spend the whole day on the sundeck by the river reading a book. And we even have our own junglestyle spa. We have built an Indian sweathut for a nice detoxing experience. First you heat up until you start to sweat heavily, than you simply cool off in the river. Great for blood circulation and the immune system. But even more important: a great way to revive.

More active visitors love to hike up the river. Further up on the mountain there is a bigger waterfall that is not reachable by road. You'll have this magnificent place all to yourself!
Just as Dominica has a river for every day of the year, Pat and Staci can provide a different excursion every day you are here. If snorkeling is your thing, Pat is an outstanding teacher & snorkel guide and can show you some of the most incredible reefs in the world. This is what reefs should look like! Staci has been an underwater photographer and can name almost every fish down there! If hiking is your thing, there are wonderful, numerous hikes that will take you deep into the rainforest some of which very few people have ever seen. Have you ever seen a boiling lake? Depending on your enthusiasm for the day, the degree of challenges are up to you. Of course, there are fun, fun, fun excursions like the zip lining, tubing down the river, diving, horseback riding, etc....We can make this YOUR fantasy island. The only thing missing is Ricardo Montalban and the little guy! Here are a few of our guests favourite excursions:
A nice ride over the Pagua river, also suitable for kids. We'll drop you off and pick you up 45 minutes and a whole lot of fun later.

Pat will drive you around the island and will try to put in as many spectacular waterfalls as you can handle. The level of difficulty ranges from easy 10 minute hikes to more challenging hikes that involve several river crossings and climbing rocks. It all depends on you.
Some of the best snorkeling around the island is found around Scott's Head. Pat is an excellent teacher & snorkel guide (he has taught thousands of charterguests during his boatingyears) and will show you some incredible reefs, including the famous Champagne Reef.
Only for the pysically fit and truly adventurous. You climb down the side of a cliff holding on to ropes and treeroots to arrive on a gorgeuous black sand beach with a beautiful waterfall.
One of the islands well-kept secrets, regular tourists don't come to this amazing place. Alongside the ocean, there are three natural waterholes carved out in the rocks. As the waves come in, the holes turn into natural jacuzzi's. Pure bliss.

We'll hook you up with captain Jerry on the proud Mary, see www.islandstylefishing.com. He has the highest succes rate of whale sightings on the island. He'll track the whales with ultrasonar equipment, and won't rest until he has found some of these gorgeous creatures. We have sperm whales out here whole year around, and are frequented by 15 other species.
Dominica hosts the worlds second largest Boiling Lake in the world. A real must see, but you have to be physically fit. It takes at least 3 hours of stepclimbing to get up there, and 3 hours back. It's a beautiful hike though with great views of the island, hot rivers, steam bursting out of the earth. Fascinating.
